An efficient particle tracking algorithm for large-scale parallel pseudo-spectral simulations of turbulence

چکیده

Particle tracking in large-scale numerical simulations of turbulent flows presents one the major bottlenecks parallel performance and scaling efficiency. Here, we describe a particle algorithm for pseudo-spectral turbulence which scales well up to billions tracer particles on modern high-performance computing architectures. We summarize standard methods used solve fluid equations our hybrid MPI/OpenMP implementation. As main focus, implementation document its computational performance. To address extensive inter-process communication required by tracking, introduce task-based approach overlap point-to-point communications with computations, thereby enabling improved resource utilization. characterize cost as function number tracked compare it flow field computation, showing that is very small typical applications.
